The Ed-Data website was designed to offer educators, policy makers, the legislature, parents, and the public quick access to timely and comprehensive data about K-12 education in California.
The California Department of Education (CDE) collects, analyzes, and publishes a wide variety of fiscal, demographic, attendance, and student performance data from local educational agencies. This information is the source of Ed-Data's profiles and reports. CDE staff administer the California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System (CALPADS) the longitudinal data system used to collect much of the students and staff data displayed on the Ed-Data website. CDE staff provide expertise to make the data available to the Partnership, assist in the design of the site, and participate in determining how to use the data to make meaningful and useful analyses and comparisons.
EdSource is an independent, impartial, statewide not-for-profit organization dedicated to enabling informed decision making on behalf of California's public schools. EdSource and its journalism and communications arm, EdSource Today, works to engage Californians on key education challenges with the goal of enhancing learning success. It does so in three ways: providing timely, useful information to policymakers; advancing awareness among the larger public on complex education issues; and highlighting effective models and strategies intended to improve student outcomes. As an Ed-Data partner, EdSource offers analyses and explanations of complex education issues, sets the context for the various reports and profiles, and monitors information on users and suggestions for future improvements.
Established in 1992 as an independent, state-funded entity, FCMAT supports California's local educational agencies in fulfilling their financial, management, and data management responsibilities by providing fiscal advice, management assistance, data management assistance, training, and other related school business and data management services. FCMAT’s California School Information Services (CSIS) helps the California Department of Education support and maintain CALPADS. FCMAT administers the Education Data Partnership in order to provide interactive and accessible financial and demographic information for policy makers at the state and local levels. CSIS hosts and maintains the Ed-Data site and provides technical expertise to the Ed-Data partnership.
